Questions about carpooling with Chalo Bhai
Straight answers about cost, safety, who can join and where the app stands today. If yours is not here, join the waitlist and ask us on WhatsApp.
Is Chalo Bhai free?
Yes. Joining the waitlist is free, and the app is planned to be free to use. Chalo Bhai takes no commission from drivers or riders. The only money involved is the fuel contribution that carpool partners agree on between themselves.
Is this a taxi or ride-hailing service?
No. Chalo Bhai is not a taxi, a ride-hailing app or a van service. It connects commuters who already travel the same route so they can share the petrol cost of a trip the driver is making anyway. Drivers are not earning a fare and nobody is being dispatched to pick you up on demand. Agar aap ko daily pick and drop chahiye, this is a carpool with someone going your way, not a hired car.
How do drivers and riders split the cost?
Riders contribute to the fuel for the shared part of the route. The driver and riders agree the amount between themselves before they start, usually as a weekly or monthly contribution. The idea is to share petrol ka kharcha, not to make a profit. Our petrol cost calculator gives both sides a fair starting number for their route.
Who can join?
Anyone in Karachi with a regular commute: office workers, university students, teachers, factory and bank staff. You can join as a driver with a car, as a rider who needs a seat, or as both. Chalo Bhai is for daily routes inside Karachi, not intercity travel.
Is it safe?
No app can promise that, and we won't pretend otherwise. What we are building is a set of tools that help you decide who to ride with: a WhatsApp-verified phone number on every profile, an optional work or university email badge, contact details shared only after both people accept a match, ratings between carpool partners, and a women-only matching option. You always choose whether to accept a match, and we suggest meeting in a public place before your first ride.
Is there a women-only option?
Yes, it is planned from the first version. Women will be able to switch on women-only matching so that they are matched only with other women, whether they drive or ride. You can register your interest with the checkbox on the waitlist form.
Do I need to drive or ride every day?
No. You choose the days. A driver might offer seats Monday to Thursday only, and a rider might need a seat three days a week. Matching takes your days into account, so you are only paired with people whose schedule overlaps with yours.
Can I drive some days and ride on others?
Yes. One account will cover both. Many households share a car, and plenty of people would rather not drive every single day. You will be able to offer seats on the days you have the car and look for a seat on the days you don't.
How is it different from a Facebook carpool group in Karachi?
Carpool groups in Karachi work, which is how we know the demand is real. The difficulty is coordination: you scroll through hundreds of posts hoping someone mentions your area and your timing. Chalo Bhai matches on your actual route, days and time window, sets up recurring arrangements instead of one-off rides, and shares contact details only after both people agree. Gari share karna should take one form, not a week of scrolling.
When is it launching?
The app is in development and we are not announcing a date we might miss. Early access will open route by route, starting where the most drivers and riders have signed up. Joining the waitlist is the way to hear first and to move your route up the list.
Which areas of Karachi are covered?
The plan is all of Karachi, opening first on the busiest commuter corridors, such as Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Safoora to Saddar and Shahrah-e-Faisal, North Nazimabad to I.I. Chundrigar Road, and DHA to Korangi Industrial Area. If your area is not in the form's list, choose Other and tell us. Waitlist signups decide which routes open first.
What data do you collect?
Only what the waitlist form asks for: your name, WhatsApp number, whether you drive or need a ride, your home and work areas, your usual leaving time, and whether you are interested in women-only matching. It is stored privately with our hosting provider, used only to contact you about early access, and never sold. You can ask us to delete it at any time.
