Two ways out of Jauhar

There are two common ways to reach Shahrah-e-Faisal from Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The first is to come down through Jauhar Chowrangi to Jauhar Mor, turn onto Rashid Minhas Road and join Shahrah-e-Faisal at the Drigh Road interchange. The second is to take Dalmia Road past the stadium side and come out at Karsaz, which suits people whose office is further towards Nursery, FTC or Metropole.

Which one a driver uses depends on their block and on where along Shahrah-e-Faisal they work. The distance on this page, about 13 km, assumes a start in the middle blocks of Jauhar and an office around the Nursery to FTC stretch. If you only go as far as Drigh Road or Karsaz, your trip is shorter and your petrol share will be too.

Shahrah-e-Faisal is a long destination

Shahrah-e-Faisal is not one place. It runs for many kilometres from the airport side to Metropole, and offices are spread along all of it. For carpooling that is an advantage. A driver going all the way to FTC can drop one rider at Karsaz, another at Baloch Colony and a third at Nursery without leaving the road, because every drop is simply further along the same route.

This is exactly the kind of match Chalo Bhai is designed to find: pickup near the start of the driver's route, drop anywhere further along it. You do not need to work in the same building as your carpool partner, only on the same road.

Who makes this commute

Gulistan-e-Jauhar is one of Karachi's densest apartment neighbourhoods, and a large part of its working population is salaried: bank staff, software and call-centre teams, airline and travel company employees, and people in the corporate offices that line Shahrah-e-Faisal. Office hours on this road are fairly standard, which means many people leave Jauhar inside the same 45-minute window each morning.

Students travel the route as well, heading to institutes and coaching centres along Shahrah-e-Faisal and around PECHS. Evening classes shift the return time, so tell us when you come back as well as when you leave.

Apartment living makes pickups easy

In a neighbourhood of apartment blocks, your best carpool partner may live in the same compound. Riders can walk to the gate, and the driver loses no time on detours through inner streets. If not, Jauhar Chowrangi, Jauhar Mor and the Millennium Mall side of Rashid Minhas Road are the natural places to meet.

Traffic through Jauhar Mor and the Drigh Road interchange is heavy from around 8:30am. Carpools on this route tend to settle on a fixed leaving time and stick to it, which is easier when the same three people ride together every day.

Questions about this route

My office is at Karsaz, not at the far end of Shahrah-e-Faisal. Can I still be matched?

Yes. Matching is based on the driver's whole route. If a driver from Jauhar passes Karsaz on the way to FTC or Metropole, your drop point is on their route and you are a match.

Is a carpool from Jauhar cheaper than a daily ride-hailing trip to Shahrah-e-Faisal?

In a carpool you contribute a share of the petrol for a trip the driver is making anyway, rather than paying a fare for a car to come and fetch you. Use the estimate on this page as a starting figure and compare it with what you currently spend in a month.
